Our service
KfW financing support
We put together the documents for your loan application, which your house bank forwards to KfW, and prepare you for the bank meeting.
In practice: Since 2018 we have written more than 750 business plans. 99% of the start-up grant (Gründungszuschuss) applications we supported were approved (internally documented). The start-up grant is a discretionary benefit under § 93 SGB III; the Employment Agency decides on approval.

Why the Bank Meeting Decides Your Financing
You have the business plan, and now the bank meeting is coming up. This is exactly where your financing is decided: under the house bank principle (Hausbankprinzip), your bank bears the risk and passes on KfW loans or development loans only if the concept and the numbers are convincing.
Many founders fail not because of the plan but because of how they present it: they cannot explain their numbers with confidence, do not know their debt service capacity, or seem unprepared. With the right preparation, you turn that around.
The Documents You Need for the Bank Meeting
A complete, tidy folder creates trust right away:
- Business plan with a clear summary (executive summary)
- Financial plan: profitability forecast, liquidity plan, and capital requirements
- Overview of equity, collateral, and, if applicable, private assets
- Self-disclosure form (Selbstauskunft) and information on creditworthiness (SCHUFA)
- Résumé and proof of industry qualifications
The Questions the Bank Asks: How to Answer With Confidence
We prepare you specifically for these questions:
- How viable is your business model, and how exactly do you earn money?
- Is your debt service capacity sufficient, and can you reliably cover interest and repayment?
- How much equity and collateral do you have?
- What do the market, the competition, and your unique selling point look like?
- What do you live on privately (personal withdrawals, living costs)?
- What is your plan B if things start more slowly than planned?
How to Answer With Confidence: Three Examples
These three typical bank questions are where the impression is made. Here is how to make a convincing case:
- What do you live on until the business can support you? A concrete answer is a good one: you have included your personal needs (about €2,100 per month) in the liquidity plan and planned a reserve for the first nine months. Dodging the question or saying “it will work out” weakens you.
- Can you reliably cover interest and repayment? Name figures from your own plan: from month 4, you generate a surplus that covers the monthly installment, calculated conservatively and with a buffer.
- What is your plan B if things start more slowly? Name concrete levers: cutting costs, a second source of income, a liquidity reserve, and, if needed, a guarantee. That shows entrepreneurial maturity instead of sugarcoating.
What Is Debt Service Capacity?
Debt service capacity is the ability to pay interest and principal on a continuing basis out of current earnings. The bank does the math: is your planned surplus, after your personal withdrawals, enough to carry the loan installment?
This one number often decides between approval and rejection. That is why you need to be able to explain it yourself, with confidence and in your own words. That is exactly what we practice with you.
The Process: Applying for Financing Step by Step
- Preparation: complete your documents, get your numbers rock solid
- Meeting: present your concept and numbers with confidence
- Review: the house bank assesses creditworthiness, collateral, and viability
- Forwarding: for development loans, the bank passes the application on to KfW
- Approval: after a positive review, your financing is in place
The Most Common Mistakes in the Bank Meeting
These mistakes regularly cost founders their approval. We make sure they don’t happen to you:
- Signaling time pressure: “I need the money next week” weakens your position. Plan with lead time.
- Being unable to explain your own numbers: if you don’t understand your own financial plan, you lose trust immediately.
- Incomplete documents: a missing self-disclosure form, collateral, or liquidity plan looks unprofessional.
- Forgetting personal withdrawals: if you don’t budget for your own living costs, your plan is seen as not thought through.
- Concealing or glossing over risks: banks check carefully, and exaggeration gets noticed.
- Letting the consultant do the talking: the bank wants to see you convinced, not your service provider.
What to Do If the Bank Says No
A rejection is not the end of the road. Often only one building block is missing, such as collateral, and a guarantee bank (Bürgschaftsbank) closes this gap so that the financing comes through after all.
These next steps often lead to financing after all:
- Ask for the reasons: what exactly was missing, collateral, equity, or viability?
- Improve the financial plan: sharpen the concept and reorganize equity and capital requirements.
- Close the collateral gap: through a guarantee bank (up to 80%), if needed also as a guarantee without a bank (Bürgschaft ohne Bank).
- Approach a second bank: other banks assess risk differently, using your revised documents.
- Explore funding routes: KfW loans and state development loans, microloans, or equity capital.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Bank Meeting
What does the bank ask about a start-up loan?
Mainly about the viability of your business model, your debt service capacity (can you reliably cover interest and repayment), the amount of equity and collateral, the market and competition, your private living costs, and your plan B in case things start more slowly. We prepare you specifically for exactly these questions, with sample answers and a dress rehearsal.
Which documents do I need for the bank meeting?
A business plan with an executive summary, a financial plan (profitability forecast, liquidity planning, and capital requirements), an overview of equity and collateral, the self-disclosure form including SCHUFA, and your résumé and proof of qualifications. We put your folder together so that it is complete and bankable and check it before the meeting.
How does a bank meeting work?
First comes preparation with complete documents, then the presentation of your concept and numbers. The bank then checks creditworthiness, collateral, and viability and, for development loans, forwards the application to KfW. After a positive review, approval follows. With good preparation, the process becomes noticeably shorter.
What happens if the bank says no?
A rejection is not the end of the road. It makes sense to ask for the reasons, improve the financial plan, close the collateral gap through a guarantee bank, approach a second bank, or explore funding and equity-investment routes. We analyze the reasons and work with you to find the right route to financing.
